The Native Amazonians (who are also called Indians) live in the Brazilian rainforest. For thousands of years, the Amazonians have lived throughout the Amazon rainforest without destroying it.
These people existed by gathering nuts, taking medicine form plants, and hunting animals without destroying the natural environment. The first Europeans explored South America 500 years ago. At that time more than 8 million Native Americans lived there. There were hundreds of different native cultures. With 12,000 Amazonians living in Brazil.
Native Amazonians want to continue their traditional (sustainable) way of life. They want everyone to leave them and the forest alone.
