In 1960 government leaders decided that they could use the unexplored Amazon Rain-forests to make Brazil a wealthy country. The government planned to develop the rainforest in many ways/Loggers cut down hardwood trees to sell as timber. Government developers dammed rivers to use waterpower, or hydroelectric power, to create energy for Brazillian cites.
